Behind on your books

Catch up a year of books, then hand your accountant the evidence.

Eight months behind is not a character flaw, it is a backlog. Connect your bank, let Prosper catch up the year, and your accountant gets a packet they can work from instead of a shoebox and an apology.

Read-only connections. 14 days of bank connect with no card, then $49 a month on Pro. No tax filing.

How it works

Four steps, and you see the size of the job at step two.

Nothing here asks you to relive the year transaction by transaction. The routine work is done for you; your time goes to the handful of calls only you can make.

Step 1

Connect your accounts

Read-only bank and card connections. Prosper pulls the history that is available from the institution and builds a ledger from it, so the catch-up starts from what actually happened rather than from what anyone remembers.

Step 2

See what is missing

The months that were never reconciled, the transactions nobody categorized, the transfers that look like income, and the receipts that never arrived. This list is the real size of the job, and you get it before you commit to anything.

Step 3

Answer only what needs you

Routine transactions are categorized automatically and Prosper learns from every correction. What it cannot infer becomes a short question with the evidence attached: what was this $4,200 transfer, is this card personal or business.

Step 4

Hand your accountant the packet

Profit and loss, balance sheet, trial balance, general ledger, the transaction detail, and the reconciliation summary, with the evidence traceable back to source. Invite your accountant and they land in the full workspace rather than an email thread.

The accountant packet

The deliverable is evidence, not a spreadsheet.

The reason a catch-up gets expensive is that the accountant has to rebuild the reasoning behind every number. Prosper keeps that reasoning attached: the decision, what it was based on, the document it came from, and who approved it. Your accountant reviews the treatment rather than reconstructing the year.

Straight answers

What we will not claim.

How long it takes depends on your books

Anyone quoting you a fixed number of days before seeing the accounts is guessing. The work scales with how many months are open, how much history your bank will hand over, and how many questions only you can answer. Prosper shows you that shape first so the estimate comes from your data.

What Prosper does not do

No tax filing, no payroll, no tax determinations. Prosper prepares the records and the evidence; your accountant reviews the accounting and the tax treatment. If you do not have an accountant yet, catching the books up first is what makes the search cheaper.

You see the cleanup before you pay

Every new account gets 14 days of bank connect and full categorization with no card, which is long enough to see the whole backlog. After that, Starter stays free for manual imports, and Pro is $49 a month for bank connections, approvals, the accountant packet, and inviting your accountant into the workspace.

If you would rather hand the whole thing to a person

Prosper is software you drive. Nobody at Prosper closes your month for you. TidyMonth is a separate bookkeeping service that does the monthly work for $199 a month and puts the catch-up in writing as a fixed price before anything is charged.

Questions

Asked before signing up.

I am eight months behind. Is that too far gone?

No. A year of backlog is an ordinary catch-up. What makes it harder is missing history rather than missing time: banks hand back a limited window of transactions, so the earlier months may need statements or a CSV export to fill in. Prosper tells you which months it could pull and which ones still have a hole.

How long does catching up a year take?

It depends on how many accounts are connected, how much history the institution returns, and how many transactions need a judgment only you can make. Prosper does the routine categorization automatically and queues the rest as questions, so the honest answer is that the time is set by how quickly those questions get answered. We do not put a guaranteed turnaround on it.

What does my accountant actually receive?

A packet with the profit and loss, balance sheet, trial balance, general ledger, transaction detail, and reconciliation summary, plus the evidence behind the decisions you approved. They can trace any number back to the transaction and the document it came from. You can also invite them directly into the workspace.

Do I need to leave QuickBooks?

No. Prosper is the cleanup layer that runs before QuickBooks or your accountant, and plenty of people keep both. If you do want to move, the switching guide covers the cut-off date and the opening balance lock.

What if I would rather someone else did all of it?

TidyMonth is a separate bookkeeping service that takes the monthly work off your desk for $199 a month and quotes any catch-up in writing before starting. Prosper is the software you drive yourself. Both are real answers depending on how much of this you want to hold.
